If your group wants to host the same live event together, you can use Zoom to connect with your participants and then route that video feed to your Insight Timer live event. Our platform cannot support multiple video sources like Zoom directly at the moment, but using OBS (Open Broadcaster Software) as a workaround gives you full flexibility.
Applications and software you'll need
To set up this workflow, you'll need to download and install several applications. Some are free and some are paid, but all are essential for capturing and streaming your Zoom feed:
- Zoom. Download here. This is where your group will meet.
- OBS (Open Broadcaster Software). Download here. This free software captures your screen and routes video to live events.
- VB-Cable. Download here. This helps route audio correctly.
- OBS Audio Monitor. Download here. This plugin manages audio monitoring during your stream.
- OBS VirtualCam plugin for Windows. Download here. For MacOS, it should already be built-in. If you don't see a Start Virtual Camera button at the bottom right under the Controls dock, visit the link to download the plugin.
- Screen recording permission (macOS only). You'll also need to make sure screen recording for OBS is permitted by your MacOS. Here's how to do this.
System requirements and technical considerations
Note: Using Zoom, OBS, and live streaming at the same time might be too taxing for some computers. The recommended minimum RAM is at least 8GB for smooth performance without lag or dropped frames. OBS is a free third-party software, and if you encounter issues using it, it's best to check their help page here. There's also a YouTube video tutorial available for your reference.
