Ticketed Live Events

What are ticketed live events?

Ticketed live events let you charge for a live session on Insight Timer. You schedule the event, choose a price from a set of price tiers, and members buy a ticket to attend. Everything else about hosting stays the same as the live events you run today.

This is a new way to be paid directly for your live teaching, alongside the earnings you already generate from your on-demand content.

Who can create a ticketed live event?

If you can currently go live on Insight Timer, you can create a ticketed live event. There is no separate application or approval step.

How do I create one?

[Coming soon]

How do I set the price?

You choose from a set of fixed prices. At launch, those are:

$1.99
$4.99
$9.99
$19.99
$49.99
$99.99
$199.99
$249.99
$299.99
$499.99

Every price has to be registered with Apple and Google in advance as its own product, which is why you pick from a list rather than entering your own figure. Prices are set in US dollars, and members in other countries pay the local equivalent as converted by the app stores.

We'll add more price points as we see what teachers are charging and what members respond to.

How much do I earn?

Insight Timer takes a 10% commission on the ticket price, wherever the ticket is bought.

The difference comes from where your member buys their ticket:

  • Bought on the web: no app store fee, so 90% of the ticket price goes to you.
  • Bought in the app: the app store takes 30% of the purchase, as it is an in-app purchase. After that and our 10% commission, the remaining 60% of the ticket price goes to you.

Can I offer discount codes or free tickets?

Not in the first version. There are no comp tickets or promo codes yet.

Do Member Plus subscribers pay full price?

Member Plus subscribers receive a 30% discount on ticketed live events. [TBC: confirm whether teacher earnings are calculated on the discounted price or the full ticket price.]

What happens if I need to cancel?

If you cancel a ticketed live event, everyone who bought a ticket is fully refunded. There is nothing you need to do to process this. Please note this is subject to change as we develop this new feature.

What if someone buys a ticket and doesn't show up?

No-shows are not refunded. Instead, they get access to the replay of your event and can watch it on demand whenever suits them.

Do ticket buyers get the replay?

Yes. Anyone who purchases a ticket gets access to the replay afterwards, whether or not they made it to the live session. See the Replays FAQ for more on how replays work.

How and when do I get paid?

Ticket earnings run through the same payout rails and on the same schedule as your existing Insight Timer earnings. Nothing new to set up.

What about tax?

See more information about how it works here.

Ticketed live events are new, and we will keep refining them as we see how teachers and members use them. If something isn't working the way you expected, tell us. Your feedback shapes what we build next.
